Capture One Tutorial.
Generating images for publication on the Internet.

Images intended for posting on the Internet generally have very specific characteristics: low resolution, sRGB as the colour space, a standard format such as JPEG, and a signature or logo overlay. This last option does not really reduce the risk of image theft, but it does ensure that the author's credits are followed in case of re-publication by a third party.
These characteristics are very different from those you would choose for printing, for example. Capture One lets you store as many output parameters as you like. You can therefore save one set of parameters for publication on the Internet, another for printing, etc.
The case to be treated.
For example, we want to produce images to publish on Facebook, with the following characteristics:
- Format JPEG.
- Colorspace : sRGB.
- We'll leave the copyright but delete all the other metadata (, EXIF, etc). In any case, these informations are deleted by Facebook and most other social networks.
- Dimensions of 1200 x 800 pixels for images in landscape format or 800 x 1200 pixels for images in portrait format.
Note: you can of course choose different dimensions, but there's no need to upload high definition images. - Overlay a wording or signature on the image (if you wish).
The méthod.

Click on the Output tab.

You won't need to do this next time as the settings will be saved by Capture One.
Look fot Process Recipe
tool. This tool has several tabs. We are going to detail the main settings to be made on each
of these tabs.
The Basic
tab.
On Basic
tab, fill in the following information:
- Format: JPEG QuickProof or JPEG.
Choosing the JPEG QuickProof format means faster processing, but the image quality is lower. It is, however, sufficient for posting on the Internet, but is not recommended for files intended for printing. As its name suggests, the JPEG QuickProof format is intended for the rapid generation of working proofs. - Quality: 75% (sufficient for publication on Facebook).
- ICC Profile : sRVB.
- Resolution is only taken into account if you define the dimensions of the image (next parameter) in terms other than pixels (inches, centimetres, etc).
- Scale: choose how to define the dimensions of the image: width and height, long side only, etc.
- Size: 1200 px is the correct value for publication on the Web.
- The other parameters can remain unchanged.
The File
Tab.
The File
tab is used to define the name of the output files and the location on the disk where these files will be generated.
- Root Folder: most of the time you'll leave the root folder on
Output folder
but you have the option of choosing any other location on the disk. - Sub Name: the file name can be constructed from a wide range of automatic information (current date, exif information, etc). If this field is left empty, the photo name will remain unchanged.
- Sub Folder: finally, the sub-folder, if specified, will be created in the root folder already defined.
The Metadata
tab.
On the Metadata
tab, remove the ticks for all the metadata. You can, however, keep the Copyright if it is correctly filled in.
The Watermark
Tab.
Cliquez sur l'onglet Filigrane
et renseignez les informations suivantes.
Nous avons choisir pour l'exemple d'incruster l'image d'un appareil photo en haut à gauche de l'image.
- Kind: Text or image (for our example, an image).
- File: Select an image file.
- Opacity: 75% is generally a good value.
- Scale: adjust the size of the overlay and a font if you are overlaying text
- Horizontal and Vertical: adjust these two sliders to position the watermark where you want it
Process
button.
A cogwheel-shaped pictogram is displayed in orange on the image(s) currently being processed.
When processing is complete, the pictogram will turn grey, indicating which images have already been generated.
Other things to know...

All these output parameters are stored by Capture One, and can be used in all sessions. They are listed in the
Process Recipes
tool. The selected preset is used for display in the viewer. On our screenshot it is therefore
Page A4
.
The checked preset(s) are used to generate the output files. It is therefore possible to generate several sets of files in a single operation. - Processing can be run on several photos provided that:
- Select all these photos in the browser.
- The
option is activated on the toolbar.
