Tutorial : Direct the posing of your model.
Shoulder orientation.

This tutorial will help you improve the poses for your portrait sessions, with particular emphasis on shoulder orientation.
Having the shoulders facing the lens evokes an impression of strength and power, which is appropriate, for example, when photographing sportspeople. But in most other cases, particularly for female models, it is preferable to have the shoulders turned slightly to three quarters. However, for very slim people, it can be interesting to explore a pose with the shoulders facing the lens. This may also be suitable for photographing children.

In this first photo, the shoulders facing the camera give the impression of a strong build, not necessarily well suited to a feminine figure.

The three-quarter shoulders are already making a big improvement.

Finally, in this third photo, the torso is almost in profile, with the shoulders turned sharply. This is the most appropriate pose for this person.

Here's a second example. Front shoulders.

Three-quarter shoulders.
(Model : Edwige)

Shoulders even more turned.

Model : Kim
VBut here's a counter-example: Kim is extremely slight, with a very slim build. With this kind of person, you can try the front shoulders. What's more, the frozen, rigid quality of this pose correlates with the military-inspired clothing, with its epaulettes reminiscent of stripes.
Careful attention has been paid to symmetry: the fleuron on the right, which appears on the frame of the stained glass window, is a copy and paste of the one on the left.
